The Hijri Lab
Biodiversity Centre
Our Labs are located in the Montreal Biodiversity Centre that has been inaugurated in 2011 at the IRBV / Montreal Botanical Garden. Its establishment was covered by the major grant obtained by the Université de Montréal (Directed by Dr Anne Bruneau) from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation.
Our labs are shared by several research groups (Bruneau, Brouillet, Favret, Joly and St-Arnaud) and are specialized laboratories. The labs are: Sample reception Lab, Microbial cultivation Lab, Nucleic Acid Extraction Lab, PCR Lab, Post-PCR Lab, Inculation Lab and refrigeration and freezing Lab. All the labs are equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
Overview of the Biodiversity Center Building
The Biodiversity Center houses: four major research collections (Marie-Victorin Herbarium, Ouellet-Robert Entomological Collectioninsect; Montreal Insectarium Scientific Collection and a Fungal collection of The Cercle des mycologues de Montréal) and high throuput laboratories. The labs are equipped with cutting-edge technology laboratory complex are subdivided according to function: a reception centre for preparing samples, a DNA/RNA extraction lab, an isolation lab (including a room classified BSL2 − biosafety level 2), two molecular biology labs (pre-PCR and post-PCR), several service areas (cleaning room, chemical supply room, storage rooms) as well as incubation and conservation units.
